End the illusion banner

Why we are here?
End the illusion, we cannot continue with “business as usual”

As one takes stock of what is happening to our nation, using simple common sense it becomes evident that things are not working. It does not take an “expert” with a PhD in economics or political science to figure out that things have gone horribly wrong on many fronts: economic, social, justice, community, environment, to name just a few.

It seems that our political leaders, economic experts, and government regulators have had their heads buried in the sand, ignoring the warning signs of the impending huge economic and financial storm that was brewing, all while taking contributions and being influenced by the very people who were driving our economy and nation over a cliff. Simultaneously while this was happening, the best our corporate controlled media could do was to lamely ask “are we in a recession yet”? Just look at some of the warning signs our “experts”, controlled media, and "leaders" missed:

* the rapid growth of the budget deficit
* the rapid growth of trade deficit
* the massive decline in the manufacturing sector
* millions of citizens losing their health care coverage
* global climate change
* increasing dependence of foreign energy sources
* unsustainable global model of economic growth
* unsustainable global population growth
* unsustainable ecological degradation
* concentration of media ownership which limited independent in depth reporting
* corrupting influence of money in politics
* irresponsible deregulation of financial institutions
* massive increase in personal and corporate debt levels
* exponential growth of financial derivatives
* massive increases in the money supply
* loss of transparency when the M3 money supply figures were no longer made available
* massive increases in the financial gap between the working classes and the elites at the top
* ineffective deadlocked government incapable of running the nation
* massive shrinkage of the middle class
* rising costs of higher education limiting economic mobility
* growth of the largest prison population on the planet
* massive losses of jobs to overseas manufacturers
* growth of the number of corporations using off shore tax havens
* involvement in 2 foreign wars waged longer than World War II and with no end in sight
* the gutting of constitutional protections our founding fathers fought so hard to give us
* a fiat currency that is on the verge of default
* a bankrupt Social Security and Medicare system incapable of meeting future commitments
* collapse of more and more corporate and public pension funds
* an overleveraged banking and financial system on the verge of collapse
* corporate mergers that have resulted in too many companies that are “too big to fail”

The above list is by no means comprehensive, but it does illustrate the depths of incompetence exhibited by the our national "leaders" and "experts" in both the economic and political realms. How is it possible that could they have missed so many warning signs?

Webster’s Dictionary defines Illusion as: “a misleading image presented to the vision (2): something that deceives or misleads intellectually b (1): perception of something objectively existing in such a way as to cause misinterpretation of its actual nature”
What has happened is the unholy alliance between the corporate controlled media and our political leaders have created an illusion that our current course is both sustainable and good for the country and world. Remember what Joseph Goebbels, Hitler’s Minister of Propaganda said:

“ If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it. The lie can be maintained only for such time as the State can shield the people from the political, economic and/or military consequences of the lie. It thus becomes vitally important for the State to use all of its powers to repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, the truth is the greatest enemy of the State. ” (Joseph Goebbels)

We need to end the illusion that has been conjured up for the consumption of the masses. Our current social, political, financial, and environmental course is not sustainable and will ultimately fail or collapse with consequences that are both dire and difficult to predict. Our current system is an illusion. It seems that all of our “experts”, those with advanced degrees, experience, and training have been unable to steer our nation on a rational and sustainable course that will repair the damage that has been done and benefit all of its citizens, not a just an elite few at the top at the expense of the rest of us. We cannot keep building more malls and more cars to drive to them using even more gas. You don't need a PhD in economics to figure out that you can’t spend more than you make. We cannot keep funding a vast military complex while borrowing money from other countries to pay for it. We cannot continue to have laws and policies that result in us having more prisoners than any other nation in the world and still maintain the illusion as the land of the free. We cannot continue to have lobbyists and special interests have disproportionate access to our legislators leading to the finest government that money can buy.

The central bankers and the financial elites are the ones that that caused the economic meltdown we are experiencing now and let us not forget that those “experts” that are overseeing the bailout were complicit in creating this meltdown and driving our nation and economy over a cliff.

What is needed is a common sense approach to these issues that ignores rigid political ideology, “expert” opinions that are self serving, and solutions that ignore the intended and unintended consequences in the other problem areas mentioned in the failure list above. We need to tap into the inner wisdom we have and rethink how we interact with those around us.

On this website we will attempt to shatter the illusion that we can continue business as usual and that somehow hoping that everything will work out all right if we only listen to our “experts” and political leadership. This website will present ideas and solutions from a wide variety of contributors. In the end the transformational change we are seeling will not happen by actions of our "leaders", but rather by changes within us.

There will be solutions that progressives will support some and solutions that they will oppose. There will also be solutions that conservatives will support and solutions that they will oppose. This probably means that they will be just about right. There will be opportunities to discuss and critique the submitted ideas and comments.

The insights of both the progressive and conservative thinkers is needed to create a balanced approach that will ultimately result in effective policies. The progressives have been at the forefront of human social development from the Magna Carta to the Civil Rights movement. It was the progressives that eliminated child labor, eliminated slavery, fought for women’s right to vote, just to name a few examples. However, we also need the conservatives to keep the movement from evolving into a total socialist state where individual initiative is stifled and dependence on the state with the inevitable result of increasing the state’s power over the members of the society.

On this website, we are looking for people to submit articles that address the issues in economics, politics, social, justice, and community and provide suggestions and ideas on how to improve our nation. This website will also provide our readers with the ability to comment on these articles as well as the comments that others submit. The goal here is to start a conversation and hopefully encourage a meaningful considerate debate and exchange of ideas. In this spirit we ask you to be considerate of others. We encourage criticism of ideas, but not of individuals who have contributed to the discussion. Profanity, personal attacks, vulgar, sexist or racist remarks are not appropriate.

We need to take back our nation from the self serving elite. This will require a grassroots effort that will require great thinking, leaderership and spiritual courage. Our "leaders" will also need to display the same. Hopefully this website will be part of that movement.
